Get creative at the Kenilworth Show!

Talented people across Coventry, Warwickshire and the West Midlands are being urged to get their creative juices flowing ahead one of the area's biggest agricultural events.

The 68th annual Kenilworth Show is to be held on Saturday, June 4 opposite the National Agricultural Centre (NAC) in Stoneleigh and, along with all the popular agricultural and equestrian classes and entertainment, the event will once again feature a thriving homecraft section.

More than 70 homecraft competitions are open to enter, with categories ranging from floral art and handicrafts to art, home-baking and wine-making.

Children up to the age of 16 can also have a go at entering competitions including making a windmill out of recycled materials, birthday cards or designing a front cover for the 2012 Kenilworth Show homecraft schedule.

Homecraft secretary Cynthia Mold, said: "The homecraft section is always a popular part of the Kenilworth Show and last year in fact we had more than 600 entries which is the best we've ever had.

"We always like to add a few new classes and this year we have added sticks of rhubarb and strawberry plants to our pots, plants and vegetables division and also brought back the design the front cover prize which is a really nice competition for children to have a go at.

"We were delighted to have lots of first time entrants take part last year and hopefully we'll get lots of new people having a go at winning a prize this time around, as well as the loyal exhibitors who have been enjoying coming along for many years."

The closing date for entries into the homecraft section of the Kenilworth Show, which has been held annually by The Kenilworth and District Agricultural Society since 1944, is Wednesday, May 25th.

Entry forms and the full homecraft schedule are available online by logging on to www.kenilworthshow.org.uk or by contacting Cynthia Mold on 01788 832833.

Preparations underway for agricultural event of the year.

A new chairman and director have been appointed as preparations get underway ahead of Warwickshire's biggest one day agricultural show.

The 68th annual Kenilworth Show will take place opposite the National Agricultural Centre (NAC) in Stoneleigh on Saturday, June 4.

A bumper crowd just short of 10,000 flocked to the 50 acre site last year for the first event held by The Kenilworth and District Agricultural Society (KADAS) at the new venue. The traditional country show had previously been held at Hurst Farm on Crackley Lane near Kenilworth.

New committee chair Guy Minshull and show director Charlie Weetman say this year's event promises to be one of the best ever held.

"The show went tremendously well at the new site last year," said Guy.

"Holding the event on Saturday for the first time also went down extremely well so we've decided to do the same again this year.

"The Kenilworth Show is one of the biggest events in the Midlands' agricultural calendar and has something for all the family and although we've got a lot of work ahead of the big day, this year's event looks like being bigger and better than ever."

Charlie has enjoyed a long association with KADAS and his grandfather was a co-founder of the society in the 1940s.

He added: "Richard Fonge has been directing the show for the last 10 years and has always done a fantastic job so I've got big shoes to fill.

"I'm really looking forward to the day and fingers crossed we will be blessed with nice weather again on June 4 and people from all over Warwickshire, the Midlands and even further afield will enjoy a great day out."

"The Kenilworth Show will host all the usual agricultural and equestrian classes and feature a wide range of homecraft competitions and trade stands. A host of new attractions and various activities for all the family will be announced in the run up to the show.

Rix Petroleum to sponsor Kenilworth Show

A petroleum company powering agricultural businesses across Warwickshire and the West Midlands is further fuelling its support for the industry having enjoyed a successful expansion into the region.

Rix Petroleum, which has traded for more than 125 years in various parts of the UK, launched its first Midlands operation just over 12 months ago.

Based in Coleshill, Warwickshire, Rix Petroleum distributes fuels, heating oils and lubricants to the homes, farms and the commercial and haulage sectors and is one of the UK’s largest independently owned oil companies.

And this year, in a further show of support for the agricultural industry, they have agreed a deal to become the main sponsor of the Kenilworth Show.

The event is one of the biggest agricultural events in the region and is being held on a 50 acre site directly opposite the National Agricultural Centre (NAC) in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on Saturday, June 5.

General manager Paul Doherty set up Rix Petroleum’s Midlands operation having enjoyed a successful career spanning more than 20 years in the oil industry.

He said: “Having known of Rix Petroleum and their fine reputation for many years I was delighted to be given the opportunity to set-up and manage their new operation in the Midlands and we have enjoyed a tremendous first year.

“We started with just two of us in the office along with two tanker drivers but have now built the team to 11 employees. Between us we have more than 100 years experience in oil distribution throughout Warwickshire and the Midlands.”

And having enjoyed a presence at the 2009 Kenilworth Show, Rix Petroleum is looking forward to playing a bigger part in this year’s event.

Paul added: “We exhibited at last year’s show and had such a great time that we are delighted to be coming back this year as main sponsors.

“We work with a lot of land owners and farmers across Warwickshire and the Midlands and are really looking forward to welcoming new and existing customers at the show this year on June 5.”

Kenilworth Show organising committee chair Cynthia Mold added: “Rix Petroleum provides a great service to agricultural businesses across our area and we are delighted the company is supporting this year’s event which is shaping up to be a really great occasion for all the family.”

New date and venue for 2010 Kenilworth Show.

Warwickshire’s biggest one day agricultural show is to be held at a new venue and on a new date this year.

The Kenilworth Show attracts thousands of people from across the country every year and will take place on Saturday, June 5 on a 50 acre site directly opposite the main entrance of the National Agricultural Centre (NAC) in Stoneleigh.

The 67th Kenilworth Show will also be the first held on a Saturday, having traditionally taken place on the first Sunday in June.

The traditional country show has been held annually by The Kenilworth and District Agricultural Society since 1944 with the last ten events taking place at Hurst Farm on Crackley Lane near Kenilworth.

Organising committee chair Cynthia Mold said she was confident switching the day of the event would help attract even more visitors and that the new venue would also prove to be popular.

“The site opposite the NAC is in a really great location, close to Kenilworth, Leamington and Coventry and we are really pleased to have secured it for this year’s event,” she said.

“We will have use of three large fields for all the various entertainment, exhibitions and events held on the day, while the site also benefits from having really good road access from Stoneleigh Road and lots of space for car parking.

“We would like to thank Tom Steele for accommodating us at Hurst Farm as we enjoyed ten great years there, but we have moved location as the site is unavailable.

“This is a new chapter in the history of the Kenilworth Show and I’m sure thousands of people will enjoy the event on June 5 as it is always such a great day out.”

The show will host the usual agricultural and equestrian classes and feature a wide range of homecraft competitions and trade stands and various activities for all the family. Further attractions will be announced in the run up to the show.
